Itinerary

Your road trip begins with an early morning departure from Kathmandu in a private 4x4 Mahindra Scorpio jeep or deluxe tourist bus. You drive east along the BP Highway, winding past scenic river valleys, rolling hills, and Sindhuli before joining the East-West Highway across the Terai plains. After a scenic 10 to 12-hour overland journey with lunch and refreshment stops en route, you climb up the Charali hill road and arrive at Kanyam by evening to check into your tea garden resort.

After a scenic breakfast overlooking the tea gardens, you enjoy morning activities in Kanyam like horse riding along tea trails, taking photos in traditional local costumes, and visiting an orthodox tea factory. In the afternoon, take a short drive to Pashupatinagar near the Nepal-India border to visit local yak cheese factories and sample fresh Chhurpi. Later in the day, drive to Shree Antu, check into an authentic local homestay, and share a warm homemade dinner with your hosts.

Wake up early for a short drive and hike up to Antu Danda Viewpoint to witness a spectacular sunrise over Mount Kanchenjunga and the surrounding hills. Return to your homestay for breakfast by Antu Pokhari lake before driving up to Mai Pokhari, a sacred nine-cornered Ramsar wetland lake surrounded by dense rhododendron forests. Conclude your day with a drive to Ilam Bazaar, check into your hotel, and explore the old hill town market in the evening.

Spend the morning exploring the historic Ilam Tea Estate, Nepal's oldest tea plantation established in 1863 and take in views of the valley from the nearby view tower. In the afternoon, browse the local markets to shop for famous eastern Nepal specialties, including organic orthodox tea, Akabare Khursani (hot cherry chillies), Chhurpi, and local milk lollipops. Later, take the hill drive back down to the Terai plains to spend your final night in Birtamod.

Enjoy an early morning breakfast at your hotel in Birtamod before boarding your private vehicle for the long return drive to Kathmandu. You travel back along the East-West and BP Highways, taking in final views of Nepal's plains, rivers, and hill landscapes along the way, arriving back in Kathmandu by late evening.
