Itinerary
Your trip starts with a private jeep drive from Chitwan along the winding Prithvi Highway. The 5 to 6-hour route follows the Trishuli River through green hills and highway market towns, giving you a smooth transition from the warm southern plains into the cooler Kathmandu Valley. Upon arriving in Kathmandu and checking into your hotel, your evening begins in Thamel, the capital's modern tourist neighborhood. You will spend the evening walking through lively, lit-up streets filled with handicraft shops, cafes, live music bars, and rooftop lounges that showcase the city's modern lifestyle.
Your second day focuses on the valley's royal heritage and central city landmarks. You will start at Kathmandu Durbar Square to see ancient wooden palaces, the Hanuman Dhoka complex, and the courtyard residence of the Living Goddess (Kumari Ghar). Next, walk over to Dharahara (Bhimsen Tower) in Sundhara to view the newly rebuilt 22-storey tower and its historic base ruins. Take the elevator up to the 20th-floor observation deck for a 360-degree panoramic view of the entire Kathmandu skyline. In the afternoon, head south to Patan Darbar Square in Lalitpur, famous for its stone Krishna Temple, bronze metalwork, and golden courtyards. The day finishes with a relaxing walk inside the Garden of Dreams, a restored 1920s European-style garden located right near the city center.
Day three covers the major spiritual and recent political landmarks of the capital. You begin at Pashupatinath Temple, a holy Hindu temple complex dedicated to Lord Shiva along the sacred Bagmati River banks. Next, you visit Buddha Stupa (Boudhanath), a massive Buddhist stupa surrounded by prayer wheels, Tibetan monasteries, and rooftop cafes. The afternoon takes a modern historical turn as you tour the Narayanhiti Palace Museum, the former royal residence turned public museum, to explore where Nepal's late Shah kings lived and ruled.
This day combines modern infrastructure with ancient preserved culture. In the morning, you board the Chandragiri Cable Car Top Station, enjoying views of the entire valley and the distant Himalayan mountain range alongside the hilltop Bhaleshwor Mahadev Temple. Midday, you visit Swayambhu Mahachaitya (the hilltop Monkey Temple) for wide views over the city. You finish the afternoon in Bhaktapur Durbar Square , a living museum city famous for its 55-Window Palace, tall pagoda temples, traditional pottery squares, and local sweet curd (Juju Dhau).
Your final day begins with leisure time in the morning for modern shopping at city malls like Chhaya Center or Labim Mall, where you can buy high-quality pashmina, local teas, and souvenirs. Around midday, you board your private vehicle for the return drive back down the Prithvi Highway, arriving back in Chitwan by evening to complete your tour.
