Itinerary
Depart early from Chitwan along the East-West Highway to the Kakarbhitta border, where you will complete immigration formalities at the Nepal-India frontier. After crossing into Panitanki, board your Indian vehicle and ascend into the hills via Mirik. Pause at Sumendu Lake for a quiet stroll and enjoy the tea gardens flanking the highway before completing the drive into Darjeeling to check into your hotel and enjoy a relaxed evening along Mall Road.
Wake up before dawn for a drive to Tiger Hill to watch the golden sunrise light up Mount Kanchenjunga. On your return down the mountain, visit Ghoom Monastery and the historic Batasia Loop war memorial. In the afternoon, explore the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park to view red pandas and snow leopards, tour the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute museum, and visit the Japanese Peace Pagoda.
Board the iconic UNESCO-listed Darjeeling Himalayan Railway "Toy Train" for a scenic joyride along the steep narrow-gauge tracks. Spend your afternoon visiting the Happy Valley Tea Estate to learn how world-famous Darjeeling tea is harvested and processed, followed by a tea-tasting session. End your day visiting the terraced Rock Garden and Ganga Maya Park for evening views across the valley streams.
Dedicate your fourth day to a side trip depending on your preference. Option A takes you on a drive to neighboring Kalimpong to tour the Deolo Hill viewpoint, Pine View Cactus Nursery, and Durpin Monastery. Alternatively, Option B takes you to the border town of Pasupati Nagar for duty-free market shopping and tea estate views along the border. Return to Darjeeling in the evening for dinner at a local rooftop cafe.
After breakfast, check out of your hotel and descend through rolling tea estates toward the Panitanki and Kakarbhitta border post. Once back on the Nepal side, board your return transport along the East-West Highway, arriving back in Chitwan by late evening to complete your journey.
